Start.
Super heavy paint scratching and swirls.

Very limited reflective surfaces.

It is difficult to see the myriad scratches under the intense swirls, but in this shot several of the worst are visible.

Looks like a cup of something was left on the wing! And it had an acidic condensation.

After the Clay process.

Working the lower panels first.

Checking scratch/swirl removal success.

The majority of the scratches are now removed and ready for Menzerna polishing.

Unbelievable. Swirls are still evident after compounding. The roof had extremely deep damage.

Decklid is ready for polishing. Several deep scratches still remain and shouldn't be removed due to depth.

Finish. No swirls are evident in this morning photo.

Next morning after detail.
The white specks are magnified against this deep black paint, but are for the most part pollen or static wax particles.

Heavier scratches remain, but are polished and rounded.

The strange ring is still there, as well as many of the deepest scratches. My paint depth gauge only works on ferrous metals, we decided to remove as much of the damage as possible, leaving the worst so as to not damage the clearcoat unnecessarily.

Little specks of white again... oops.

Before:

After:

Badly damaged Mustang.
Unbelievable results.
Between 6 and 14 microns of clear were removed over the body of the car.
Front and rear bumpers were not cut to the level of the rest of the vehicle due to possible damage.
Constant paint depth gauge checking was done where possible.
Hood and both bumpers are a plastic molded resin and couldn't be checked (non-ferrous).
The usual amount of paint removed during extreme exterior details is 1 to 4 microns.
It is probable that this car was never waxed properly during the prior ownership,
and was obviously taken through bad car washes (maybe at gas stations?) due
to the immense level of swirl and straight line scratches.
